CMPD Animal Care & Control is in need of loving families to open their homes to homeless pets this summer according to WCNC Charlotte. They urgently need this help because necessary construction in a matter of weeks could remove dozens of spaces for an unknown period of time.

The project is only being done to bring the kennel up to code and would not add more space for animals. The shelter is already filled with cats and dogs that need homes. The project makes keeping these animals there much harder.

Currently, lost and abandoned dogs being brought into the shelter are at an all-time high compared to the last five years.

This is likely due to economic concerns. Most dogs brought into the shelters are there because their owners got evicted and could not keep them.

Meanwhile, the number of dogs being adopted has dropped 20% compared to last year.

There are many ways to help this shelter and others by doing things such as fostering, staycations, adoptions, and microchipping.

The shelter has also released an article called seven main ways to help during its time of need, which lists many ways to help these animals.
