Something VERY Stinky At North Carolina State University
One of the biggest and stinkiest flowers in the plant kingdom, also known as the corpse flower, is expected to bloom this week at North Carolina State University. ABC11 says the rare titan arum is commonly known as the corpse flower due to the odor of its flower. Many people describe it as smelling like rotting flesh.
Of course, you need to see and smell this in person. But be prepared, it’s not pleasant. The dormant plant was given to Conservatory Curator Diane Mays in 2017.
She has even given this little stinker a name. This corpse flower is named Wolfgang. It appears Wolfgang is now ready to bloom and let go of the awful odor that makes it famous.
The university said in a news release that there’s no precise time for the plant will bloom. But it should be anytime now. Maybe as soon as today or tomorrow.
The JC Raulston Arboretum will offer extended hours for public viewing during the bloom phase from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Once the corpse flower blooms its smell will only last about 24 hours. The Department of Horticultural Science has a webcam so individuals unable to see the plant in person can view the plant’s progress throughout the week.
Can You Guess North Carolina's Favorite Flower? It's Not The Dogwood
Spring is in the air, and the flowers are blooming. I absolutely love looking at all the gorgeous flowers decorating Charlotte these days. And on my to-do list for this week is to purchase a bouquet of flowers to brighten up my house. My favorite flower is probably an orchid or tulips. But have you ever wondered what flowers other people enjoy the most? A new study by Primrose determined the favorite flower or each US State.
To do this the experts at Primrose analyzed Google search data for 1,085 plant and flower variations to determine each country, US state and UK city’s favorite flowers and plants. I’ll give you a hint the flower that topped North Carolina’s list is also the most popular in the United States. It was searched in NC 853,500 times. That’s a lot!
