According to WCNC Charlotte, a businessman in Mooresville, North Carolina, is helping a lot of people in the Caribbean who are in need by donating thousands of solar panels to families and businesses.
The owner of Merino Mill in Mooresville, Michal Bay, said that his upbringing taught him the importance of giving back. He also told WCNC Charlotte that the entire solar panel system that he is giving for free is worth $2.5 million.
Bay said “Haiti reminds me of life, and childhood in my village in the east of Turkey. So, if I can help someone’s life in a minimal way then it will make me happy.”
As Bay began renting out more of his business spaces, he needed to remove several solar panels that weren't being requested to make space. That was when he made the decision to donate all of the solar panel systems.
Bay decided to partner with “Promise for Haiti,” a Belmont-based nonprofit, to make this happen.
He said, “It can make a huge impact even for the next generation because they will be able to get online and be able to have electricity.”
The solar panels that Bay owned are currently being removed from the property. They will all be shipped overseas after being pressure washed.
Bay expects the solar panels to be distributed in two to three months. He plans to visit the country and see the panels at work after they are properly installed.
