According to WCNC Charlotte, Charlotte Hornets general manager, Mitch Kupchak, says that the team won’t necessarily take the “best fit” and will instead take the best player in the draft.
Last week Michael Jordan agreed to sell the majority stake that he owned in the team to a group that is led by Gabe Plotkin and Rick Schnall. Kupchak said Wednesday that Jordan’s decision to sell the team will not change the organization’s process for the NBA Draft this week.
In Thursday’s draft, Charlotte has the No. 2 overall pick. Many indicators point to the Hornets taking Scoot Henderson or Brandon Miller. The No. 27 pick and three second-round picks are also held by the Hornets.
On Wednesday, Kupchak told reporters that he and Jordan have been working alongside the new owners to prepare for the draft. Ultimately, the pick on Thursday night will be made by Kupchak.
