Longtime Uptown Charlotte North Carolina Lunch Spot Closing Permanently

It seems that more and more, long-time staples of the Charlotte, North Carolina food scene are going away. Already in the last couple of years we’ve seen the closing Price’s Chicken Coop and Mr. K’s just to name a couple. And now comes the news that Green’s Lunch, open for nearly 100 years, is closing. Green’s will have its last day of operation on Wednesday, June 28th.
Green’s is located a block from the federal courthouse in Uptown Charlotte. It has been open since 1926 and is famous for its hot dogs, BLT’s on wheat, and “special chili.” You would see lawyers and construction crews dining side by side on Styrofoam plates. This place is the OG lunch of OG lunches. Back in February, there were reports of the building being up for sale and Green’s closing. The response from the owners at that time was adamant.
“We are OPEN and have been OPEN for 97 Years. We have lived and made it from the recession, depression, WWII, and recently, COVID. WE ARE NOT GOING ANYWHERE. We are proud of our loyal customers for keeping us in business all these years. However, if these rumors do not STOP we will close our doors for good because these rumors have affected our business.”
Sad, that after surviving and thriving through all society had thrown in it’s path since 1926, a rumor is what ultimately caused Green’s Lunch” to close its doors. Again, Green’s Lunch will have its last day of business this Wednesday, June 28th.
