Could Happy Hours Be Coming To North Carolina?
Apparently this argument has been on the table a while in North Carolina. But, I didn’t even realize until last year that North Carolina doesn’t currently allow “Happy Hours.” Currently, the law does not allow bars in the state to change prices of alcoholic items unless it’s for the whole day. Thus, prohibiting the familiar quick “happy hour” pricing we sometimes have seen elsewhere. It usually takes place in most places we visit from 4-6 p.m. or similar hours. It’s that unwind at the end of the day situation.
But, according to WCNC, there’s talk among Raleigh lawmakers to try and change the rules. And, this week there’s debate on the table to legalize “happy hours” in North Carolina. And, bar owners in favor of the change, point out that it’s not only the bars who benefit from allowing the shift. The change potentially increases revenue for the state as well. Plus, along with the happy hour bill, ABC stores could be open on Sundays.
Of course, lawmakers express concern over abuse of the privilege. They worry about DUIs rising and safety issues associated with the bill. Some though, point out that stats in states that allow happy hours don’t necessarily support that argument. So, time will tell what becomes of the proposals.
Honestly, when I’m in states that allow happy hours I typically am way more excited about the accompanying food specials associated with the deals. LOL. As a lover of all things food, to me there’s nothing better than a $5 bar bite appetizer! To read more about the developing story check out the full details from WCNC.
