I'm a small town girl.  I grew up in Shelby, went to college in Cullowhee, and spent most of my adult life in Cramerton.  Small towns are my thing.  They are charming and obviously less populated. I just like the pace much better.  This North Carolina small town was named the best to visit in the state.

Now, how can a person possibly narrow it down?  There are so many adorable small towns from the mountains to the coast.  I checked in with multiple sources including Travel and Leisure and Southern Living and one small town just kept popping up.  I saw the towns of Boone and Blowing Rock mentioned several times but the town that tops them all according to several travel experts is, Banner Elk. This North Carolina small town named the best to visit in the state.

Southern Living calls Banner Elk the perfect small town to visit. Banner Elk, North Carolina offers  hiking, biking, shopping, eating or just wandering the picturesque main street. Of course there is plenty of opportunities for great skiing.  Southern Living says the people that live there are so friendly they treat you like family. Speaking of people that live there, there are around 1,039 of them. The travel experts at Southern Living recommend Grandfather Mountain State Park, the Mile High Swinging Bridge and the Banner House Museum as must see destinations.  This North Carolina small town named the best to visit in the state.

They don't call it Southern Charm for anything. The South is home to not only some of the sweetest and most beautiful people but also the cutest towns as well. Starting out with the Carolina cities, we're visiting South Carolina. Beaufort, South Carolina is one of the cutest and most charming small towns in the South and made the top 12 list. This historic small town lies on the banks of the Beaufort River. There is plenty of nature to enjoy outdoor activities, cobblestone roads and historic buildings to bring in all of the charm. You're also not to far away from the beach and can enjoy a relaxing time by the water as well.

Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, visit the small town of Blowing Rock. Crazy enough, I drove through the area for the first time the other day and it is quite stunning! It's known for being one of the best vacation destinations up in the mountain. There are tons of restaurants, small shops, and more to enjoy while in the area. They are also known for having a lot of charming rental homes for you and the family to enjoy.

Now, we're heading back to South Carolina and going into Aiken. This area is famous for equestrianism and its historic moments. There are museums, culture, art galleries, and more. I have been to Aiken a few times and it is a quiet and calming experience to see.
