North Carolina Teacher Wins $20,000 Top Prize On Food Network Competition
We seem to have a lot of talented folks in North Carolina. Every day I find another person from the Tar Heel state winning various game shows and cooking competitions. This time, a North Carolina teacher wins one of my favorite Food Network competitions. Elizabeth Barrick, a kindergarten teacher at Matthews Elementary, is now using math skills to count the $20,000 prize she won on Guy’s Grocery Games.
Guy Fieri hosts many competition shows on the Food Network. And, “Triple G” is the one with competitors participating in several rounds of games in “Flavortown.” That’s the grocery store nickname used as the setting for the contest. It’s my favorite kind of place, part groceries, part kitchen.
And, Guy concocts fun food related activities to put competitors to the test in each round. They shop the market and prepare foods meeting his requirements for game play in each round. Finally, the last person or team standing shops the store on a scavenger hunt type task with a chance to win as much as $20,000. So, that’s what this Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools teacher did.
Plus, Guy bases the games in the various preliminary round on whatever the theme of the show might be. In this case, teachers teamed up with pro chefs to play. And, Barrick needed to call on her math and geography skills in the contest to shop for certain items meeting the requirements. Also, Guy added that the dishes be based off school lunches. I immediately picture that famous square pizza from my school days!
But, in the end Elizabeth moved to the top of the class. And, this time “staying after school” was a good thing. So, we say A+ to Elizabeth as the North Carolina teacher wins the top prize on Food Network’s “Guy’s Grocery Games.” For more see the full story on WSOC. These shows inspire me to not only travel but try out new places to eat in North Carolina.
