North Carolina Man Sentenced For Participation In January 6th Capitol Incident
Middlesex, North Carolina’s Matthew Jason Beddingfield (22) has been sentenced to 38 months in prison along with another 24 months of supervised released and fined $2000 in restitution for his participation in the riot on the nation’s capitol building on January 6, 2021. No matter what side of the aisle you fall on, it’s hard to argue that the images of that day are anything but embarrassing at best and third-world-disturbing at worst.
Beddingfield’s sentencing comes after he pled guilty on Feb. 16 to the felony charge of assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers.
It’s been 30 months since Jan. 6, 2021. During that time period more than 1,000 people have been arrested (in nearly every state in the union) for various crimes relating to the now infamous U.S. Capitol breach. Like Matthew Jason Beddingfield, between three and four hundred persons have been charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement.
Winston-Salem’s WXII-TV states, According to court documents, on Jan. 6, 2021, at approximately 12:58 p.m., Beddingfield jumped over a barricade and charged toward a group of U.S. Capitol police officers who were near the scaffolding that had previously been erected outside the southwest side of the building.
The investigation into the Capitol breach of January 6, 2021 remains ongoing. Should you have any tips in this matter for law enforcement, you can call 1-800-CALL-FBI (800-225-5324) or visit tips.fbi.gov.
At 22 years old, Matthew Jason Beddingfield will still be a young man once his entire sentence is complete (27-28 years old). No doubt he has a lifetime of regrets to live with. Yet, he will still have so much time to prove to be an asset and not a detriment to society.
True Crime Stories Out Of North & South Carolina
People are fascinated by true crime. There are countless podcasts, articles, documentaries, and even TikTok videos on the subject. Perhaps it’s the mystery or the relatability to the victims. But whatever it is it is undeniable the prevalence it has in today’s society. And while we (at least I), would like to think these things only happen far away, that’s just not true. In fact, there are multiple instances of true crime stories from North and South Carolina.
Below you will find just a small subset of some of the most famous cases in the Carolinas. Some are extremely recent, others from years ago. Some have been resolved others still have us asking questions. You can find a wealth of information involving these cases online and I’ve referenced documentaries you can watch to learn more as well. As someone who isn’t close to obsessed with the genre, I still went deep down the rabbit hole with some of these cases.
Know of some we missed? Let us know on social media and maybe we will do part two of true crime cases from North and South Carolina.
