Pixar’s “Elemental” Film Has Gone From A Flop To A Win
Recently, Pixar’s “Elemental” had a major box office comeback after seemingly being a financial disappointment according to Slash Film. Now Pixar’s “Elemental” film has gone from a flop to a win.
A few weeks ago, Pixar’s “Elemental” appeared to be another financial disappointment for the industry. The Disney movie was budgeted at $200 million and opened against “The Flash.” The film ended up having to settle for a distant second place with a start of $29 million. The film quickly seemed to be a disaster. However currently, a month later, the film has experienced an insane reversal of fortune. So much of a remarkable reverse that it has now sailed past the $300 million mark worldwide.
“Elemental” has now earned $311.6 million worldwide according to Box Office Mojo. This puts the movie above “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” ($302.3 million) and makes it the ninth highest-grossing movie this year so far.
The film about forbidden love between a water-based being and a fire-based being is currently doing so well from tremendous word of mouth. It currently has an A CinemaScore and a Rotten Tomatoes audience rating of 92%.
If the film ends up reaching $500 million, it could be counted as a big win for Disney and Pixar. With the $200 million budget, $500 million would be enough to earn a good profit. Even if the film only makes $400 million, it would save the film from being a complete disaster. However, it would, more importantly, show that audiences will still show up to see Pixar films in theaters when provided with the opportunity.
Fortunately, the CEO of Disney, Bob Iger, has acknowledged already that sending Pixar films like “Turning Red” and “Soul” to Disney+ did damage to the brand. This movie is proof that Pixar is still an amazing and viable theatrical brand. Turning this, at first, awful situation into a feel-good story of the summer.
