North Carolina Man’s Stolen 1967 Mustang Recovered After 21 Years
A North Carolina man’s stolen 1967 Mustang has been recoverd after 21 years missing.
David Tucker last saw his blue Mustang in 2002, when he listed it for sale. For better visibility, he parked it at his friend’s house in Oak Ridge, North Carolina. The car was stolen from that friend’s yard and vanished.
Tucker says he checked for the vehicle identification number regularly to see if his stolen Mustang would show up, but it wasn’t until recently that it resurfaced.
It turns out the thieves had altered the car’s vehicle identification number, which made it nearly impossible to track down. It was eventually found in Florida and had been repainted white.
“The VIN number had been changed on it. The initial VIN number … came back to a vehicle that had already been scrapped … They did some digging,” Guilford County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Ryan Seals told WGHP-TV.
Tucker says it could be weeks or months before he actually gets the car back.
