Americans love dessert. A piece of pie or a cookie always seems to hit the spot. But which states are leading the pack of sweet tooth residents? The Machester Times quoted the results of a survey conducted by OnePoll for Crumbl Cookies.

A survey of 5,000 Americans evenly split 100 per state found that those from Tennessee are most likely to eat dessert every day (25%), followed by those from Colorado, Louisiana and North Carolina (22% each). If you love dessert. you are not alone. One in six Americans sits down to a sugary treat once a day.

Here is the order of the truly loved desserts. Americans’ most-eaten desserts are ice cream (55%), cookies (35%), and chocolate (32%).

Cookies are hard to resist for most Americans. The average American estimating that they eat just under 200 cookies a year. That's a whole bunch of cookies.

Looking at Americans’ top-rated cookies, chocolate chip won by a landslide (62%), followed by peanut butter (31%) and brownie/double chocolate (26%). White chocolate chip macadamia (23%) and oatmeal raisin (22%) weren’t far behind.

I am a sugar cookie guy myself. If you add frosting and sprinkles to the top that's even better.

So North Carolina placed in the top 5 for sweet tooths. Don't worry the folks in South Carolina love the sweets also. Just not as much as their neighbors to the North.

Would You Have Guessed This Is North Carolina’s Favorite Dessert?

We’ve run into a few lists that make us shake our heads over the years. But this one may take the… cake- pun 100% intended. North Carolina’s favorite dessert is not one we would have thought of. Coventry Direct used some interesting methodology to determine the most popular dessert in every state. They took a list of 40 of the most popular desserts and then analyzed Google search terms in each state for those 40 desserts.

While not a bad metric, it does seem to create an issue in states where popular desserts don’t really need to be Googled: Grandma just passes that recipe right on down. But anyway, while most of us might guess chocolate cake, or sweet potato pie for North Carolina, you’d be wrong apparently. Also, Idaho, Minnesota, New Hampshire, SOUTH CAROLINA are y'all ok? The other question I have is what in the world is Texas sheet cake and why is it so popular? Also why is there no just chocolate or vanilla cake or cupcakes on this list? I have to think those are more popular than things that made this list.

But what is North Carolina's favorite dessert? Well, let’s take a look at the most popular dessert in every state:
