Popular North Carolina Labor Day Festival Set To Return
When we moved to North Carolina in 2006, “Matthews Alive” was one of the first big events I remember going to as a family. This is one of the best street festivals you could ever attend. It takes place at the corner of John and Trade Streets in Historic Downtown Matthews. Matthews Alive is an annual Labor Day tradition for the South Charlotte area and is set to take place this year from Friday, September 1, to Monday, September 4, 2023.
Matthews Alive has a little bit of something for everyone. There are three stages of live music, games and rides for the kids, a Labor Day parade, an arts and crafts market, and of course enough festival food to satisfy even the biggest connoisseur of this sort of thing (ie ME!).
Attending Matthews Alive is also helping the community. Proceeds from the event go back into local non-profit organizations. Over the years, Matthews Alive has donated more than $2 million.
Matthews Alive is a family festival, make no mistake about it. BUT Matthews Alive asks you leave your four-legged family members at home. We all love our four legged friends, but we kindly ask that you leave them safely at home during the Matthews Alive festivities. The city of Matthews, NC has an ordinance against allowing pets within the event area. Note: Service animals are always welcome.
Individual tickets for Matthews Alive are $2 each. Ride tickets are available as well. $30 for a sheet of 25 tickets. $50 for a sheet of 50 tickets. Multiple ticket booths will accept credit cards this year. There are also a few ATMs on-site at Matthews Alive. You can find more specifics about ticket prices, and how many tickets rides & games require, on the Rides, Games, & Family Fun page.
The Annual Matthews Alive celebration takes place Labor Day weekend (Friday, September 1, to Monday, September 4, 2023). Here are the hours of operation.
