In this world of, gotta get there and get there fast, most of us take cars everywhere we want to go. Bikes are popular and so are those little rental scooters you see around bigger cities. There is something charming and convenient to be in a city where you can walk everywhere. South Carolina is home to one of the most walkable cities in the country.

Just the other day a friend of mine asked me a good place to stay in this South Carolina walkable city and I based my answer on these things. The bed and breakfast must be near great food, the main attraction and quaint shops. We like going somewhere and not having to move our car to do anything.
The winner of the most walkable city is Boston, Massachusetts. That city was founded in 1630. It was built for walkers and it is still true today. Coming in at number 2 on the study is Washington, D.C. Just the National Mall is filled to the brim with monuments, memorials and museums. San Antonio, Texas came in at number 3 according to TravelAwaits. The River Walk is filled with restaurants, shopping and art.
South Carolina is home to one of the most walkable cities in the country. And I’ll bet you can guess which one. It is a town that appears on just about everything else nice about South Carolina. When my friend was asking me about the best place to stay, she was referring to Charleston, South Carolina. The charming Charleston Historic District is truly lovely. That is where we stay when we head to the Holy City. Enjoy dining, art, “Rainbow Row”, ghost tours or stately historic home tours.
