A few years ago I took a pretty significant swim in the ocean and I had a leg full of jellyfish stings to show for it.  Ever since then I only get ankle deep in an ocean but I will venture a little further when it comes to a lake.  Lucky for us there are plenty to choose from around here.  Travel experts say these are the best lake destinations in North Carolina and South Carolina.

Travel Pulse shares their lake expertise and compiled a list of the best lake destinations in every state.  Beautiful lakes are dotted all over North Carolina and South Carolina.  You might be wanting to head to one for the long Labor Day weekend.  Some lakes in other parts of the country were created by glaciers but around here some of the best ones are man made.

No matter if you are looking for a place of solitude or plenty of action, there is a lake around here that you will love.  Let's take a look at what travel experts consider the best lake destinations in North Carolina and South Carolina.

Travel Pulse says the best lake in North Carolina is Lake Norman. They call it a "dream come true" for lake lovers.  There are no horsepower restrictions, miles and miles of shoreline and great restaurants near every cove.

Another man made lake takes the coveted top lake spot in South Carolina. In the northwest part of the state you will find Lake Keowee.  Take in mountains views, quiet coves and endless recreational opportunities.

Summertime is here! And while the 4th of July may be behind us there are still many weekends left to get out on the lake and enjoy some fun in the sun. Whether you like skiing or wakeboarding, tubing, floating, or just enjoying a cold beverage taking out the boat is the prime summer activity. But what if you don't have a boat or a friend with a boat? Never fear you can rent one! There are several places to rent a boat on North Carolina's Lake Norman.

Lake Wylie is just a short drive north of the Charlotte area and borders places such as Mooresville, Cornelius, and Huntersville. It's by the far the most popular lake in the area with lots of cool spots to dock your boat.

Keep in mind many rental places require at least one person to have a North Carolina boating license. To receive one you have to take an approved boating education course. So if you are planning on renting make sure you inquire about the rental company's policy.
