There is a new Italian Ice spot in Charlotte. The Charlotte Area Chamber of Commerce celebrated the grand opening and ribbon cutting of Jermiah's Italian Ice this past week. This marks the chain's first location in Charlotte. There are already locations in Matthews as well as 7 other NC cities like Wake Forest and Wilmington. Jeremiah's specializes in "tasty frozen treats served up with a smile." The menu includes over 40 flavors of Italian Ice and soft-serve ice cream. The highlight perhaps (at least from looking at the menu) seems to be the gelati. It's a layered treat featuring both the soft serve and Italian ice.

Italian ice flavors range from Mango, Passion Fruit, and strawberry lemon to Pumpkin Pie and mint chocolate chip. Soft serve is available in vanilla, chocolate, or swirl. And the combinations to choose from for gelati? Seemingly endless! In photos on the website, several gelati combinations appear to have toppings. There is one with sprinkles as well as a pumpkin pie option that appears to have a sort of crust sprinkled on. This is certainly what I am trying first!

The company takes pride in giving back to the local communities in which they operate. They "work hand-in-hand with schools, religious organizations, chambers, and charity organizations all in an effort to better our surrounding communities!" I can't wait to see what they bring to the Charlotte area.

The weather is still warm enough to justify a cold treat. I know I'll be paying a visit soon! If you'd like to do the same, Jeremiah's Italian Ice of Charlotte is located at 3842 Corning Place, Suite C, Charlotte, NC 28216. Hours are Sunday through Thursday 12 pm-10 pm and Friday and Saturday 12 pm-11 pm.

If you're anything like me then you're a sweet kind of person. I love desserts, sugary treats, and all of that all the time. My sweet tooth is beyond strong and is always calling my name. Whenever I am craving something sweet, it's pretty hard to determine what I want. From cookies to ice cream to baked goods, they are all so good. But, being from South Carolina there are some treats that are just a staple for us to know.

Taste Atlas is giving us the three most popular South Carolinian desserts you should know. These are three, but I know there are a few more to add to this list. My aunt has taught me many things and baking some of our favorite recipes that have been passed down is one of the best things. If you do not know any of these treats, then you are missing out. Check out some popular desserts famous in South Carolina that you 100% need to know.

Huguenot Torte

A favorite from Charleston is the Huguenot Torte treat. This is a baked apple and pecan or walnut pudding cake with crispy meringue topping and served with whipped cream. Taste Atlas says this is a pretty recent recipe for the Charleston base.  The recipe first showed up in the 1950s in a cookbook and began to blow up shortly after.

Benne Wafers

Now this is a great one for sure! Benne Wafers is a traditional American cookie coming straight out of Charleston. Made up of a great combo of butter, sugar, flour, eggs, baking powder, and benne. Benne is the Bantu word for sesame seeds. They are a cookie dated back years and years and are now a treat that tourists can enjoy when visiting.

Lady Baltimore Cake

Now, this may be a new one for me. The Lady Baltimore Cake is Taste Atlas No. 1 South Carolina dessert. I have personally never heard of or had this which is kind of crazy being from Charleston. This famous cake was created by two women who ran Charleston's Lady Baltimore Tea Room. The cake is several layers of white sponge cake and a rich marshmallow-like frosting mixed with chopped nuts and dried fruits.
