Amazon Customers Receiving Scam Emails
If you received multiple emails from Amazon this weekend thanking you for a gift card purchase you didn’t make, you’re not alone. Looks like a lot of Amazon customers received false emails.
A number of Amazon customers took to social media to say they received three different emails about gift card purchases for Google Play, Mastercard, and Hotels.com. Interestingly, these emails also contained a warning about gift card scams.
According to Business Insider, scammers often use retail gift cards to buy third-party cards, such as Google Play, which can be resold on the black market. Scammers will also impersonate loved ones, telling them they need money for urgent reasons, and that the only way they can receive it is through gift cards.
Amazon customer service reps say the company is looking into this issue and reassured customers their accounts were safe, but Amazon did not have an official statement for the press on the matter.
