You can really count on your neighbors here. This North Carolina town was just named one of the most neighborly in the United States.
Looking for a place where you would feel comfortable asking to borrow that cup of sugar? Look no further than Raleigh, North Carolina. Neighbor.com just unveiled their list of The Top 10 Most Neighborly Cities and Raleigh came in at 9th place. How did they draw this conclusion?
The company poured over data on charitable givings, rates of volunteer work, as well as crime statistics. The website said this helped them determine “the core values of unity and neighborliness that make a city truly great”. So if Raleigh was 9, which city do they consider the most friendly in the United States.
According to Neighbor.com Madison, Wisconsin is the most neighborly.Wisconsin’s tourism secretary, Anne Sayers tells the website, “We couldn’t be happier that Madison has earned the title of America’s most neighborly city. This recognition is a reflection of the warm, supportive, and proactive community spirit that doesn’t just reside in Madison but is the heartbeat of all of Wisconsin.” The top two activities that neighborly people enjoy are park gatherings or a simple block party. North Carolina Ranks Dead Last In The Country For Vegetarian Friendliness
I know a handful of people in the Charlotte area who are vegan or vegetarian. And have some other friends that enjoy eating that way even if it’s not a full lifestyle choice. Personally, it’s not for me, but I respect people who choose that route for whatever that reason may be. And while restaurants across the country are overall becoming more friendly to dietary restrictions, it can still be hard to keep up a vegan/vegetarian lifestyle. This is why our friends at WalletHub conducted research to determine the best and worst places to be vegetarian in the US. And of all the cities they looked at it was a North Carolina city that ranked the worst for vegetarian friendliness.
According to WalletHub, around 15.5 million U.S. adults are vegan or vegetarian. That is a significant portion of the country. Even still, it can be hard to find unique and interesting plant-based options on the menu or at a grocery store. And the last thing vegetarians want is to only have the option of ordering a salad. Overall 5 North Carolina cities were included on this list, and all five ranked in the bottom half of this list. To create these rankings WalletHub “compared the 100 most populated cities across three key dimensions: 1) Affordability, 2) Diversity, Accessibility & Quality and 3) Vegetarian Lifestyle.”
More specifically they looked st the cost of groceries for vegetarians, the share of restaurants serving meatless options, and salad shops per capita. Unfortunately, North Carolina isn’t doing well when it comes to vegetarian friendliness. I do have to shout of South Carolina who this week had the number one ranked restaurant for vegetarians in the country from TripAdvisor. You can read the full WalletHub list and methodology here.
