Massive Pumpkin Takes Top Prize In Annual Weigh Off
There are certain tell-tale signs of fall. Schools get back in session. Football becomes the national obsession on Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays. And the annual World Pumpkin Weigh Off goes down in upstate New York. My wife’s obsession with fall, pumpkins, and all things agri-tainment leave me puzzled as to how and why I’ve somehow not been coerced into attending this shining example of Americana.
Last weekend The Great Pumpkin Farm in Clarence, New York, once again played host to the yearly weighing of massive gourds. Just to catch you up, last year’s event was record-setting as a pumpkin tipped the scales at more than 2500 pounds.
This year, not quite a big, but still impressive. For the second year in a row, the Andrusz family took home top prize at the World Pumpkin Weigh Off with a giant, 2023-pound squash.
As much as my wife is obsessed with pumpkins and all things fall, the World Pumpkin Weigh Off in Clarence, New York may need to be put on our “To Do” list. And there’s much more than just the main event going on. According to WGRZ-TV, people attending the event can also check out the weekend’s attractions such as the corn maze, rides, games, cow train, magic show, and more.
