We love a good state fair with all the exciting rides and food on a stick.  And, when the North Carolina State Fair starts up this month, ride tickets go digital and reloadable.  It's honestly in my opinion a brilliant and easy to use system.  I'm surprised it hasn't happened sooner.  So, here's how it works.

According to The Charlotte Observer, ride ticket cards take the place of the ticket sheets used in the past at the North Carolina State Fair.  And, the cards work in a similar fashion to a debit card.  The fairgoer purchases ride tickets online or at special kiosks at the fair.  Then, the customer presents the chipped card at the ride.  And, the appropriate number of ride tickets are debited from the card based on how many tickets the particular ride requires.  But, my favorite part is the ride tickets carry over from year to year.  So, if you have unused ride tickets on your card from this year you can hang on to the card and use them next year.

Therefore, you don't have to worry about wasting money on unused ride tickets year to year at the North Carolina State Fair.  And, if you buy your tickets online by October 12 you save.  Those are $10 for 18 ride tickets.   And, anyone purchasing the ride tickets after the 12th (opening day) pays $1 per ticket at redemption plazas or $18 for 18 tickets bought online.

So, again think of a debit or gift card.  You load the ride tickets online or in person.  Then, scan them at the ride.  And, reload them as needed.  Then, hang on to the cards for use next year at the North Carolina State Fair.  The fair runs October 12 through October 22.  For more, see the full story in the Charlotte Observer.

North Carolina State Fair One Of The Top 10 In The Country

Fall means fair season, especially in the south. And with the NC State Fair just wrapping up I thought it was interesting that it was named one of the Top 10 fairs in the country. This is according to a list by Vacations Made Easy. There are several staples you know you're going to get at any and every fair. Free live music, some form of competitions, carnival rides, and deep-fried and other crazy food concoctions. The one food item that always stands out in my memory is the Krispy Kreme Burger.

I've been to the NC State Fair many times thanks to living in Raleigh for several years. And while I didn't make it there this time I did see the lights and rides from the air as a flight I was on landed at RDU. That was an awesome sight to see! I also have memories of every year during the fair hearing the fireworks show go off right at 1opm each night. All to say, we do have a good one on our hands in Raleigh! But when there are contenders on the stage such as Texas and NY it's even more impressive that we ranked so high!
