Catawba Nation Chief Wants Developer Out Of North Carolina Casino Deal
The chief of the Catawba Indian Nation wants to part ways with the developer of the tribe’s North Carolina casino.
According to the Charlotte Business Journal, Chief Brian Harris has asked for negotiations between Sky Boat Gaming and the tribe to be made public. Harris is seeking a fresh start with another developer for its Catawba Two Kings Casino in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. The move comes after the National Indian Gaming Commission raised issues with the tribe’s current plans. The NIGC said the project violates federal law.
Thanks to a release from the Catawba Indian Nation Wednesday, we now know that the commission alleged that the deal gave Sky Boat “too much ownership control and management authority over the casino project.” So for the time being, the North Carolina casino planned for Kings Mountain is still in limbo.
That isn’t stopping the Catawbas from operating a gaming establishment. The Catawba Two Kings casino has been operating as a temporary facility since 2021.
Meanwhile, Catawba Nation officials say Sky Boat Gaming is holding the tribe’s project hostage by demanding millions of dollars to exit.
This North Carolina Casino Destination Named One Of The Best Bachelor Party Spots
Two things I have very limited knowledge of are casinos and bachelor parties. I’ve been to my share of Bachelorette parties but those are way more aesthetic, planned, and fancy that their male counterpart. And my casino knowledge comes from walking through the one at Atlantis, one trip to Vegas, and cruise ships. But apparently, a casino in North Carolina is one of the top spots for a bachelor party. Who knew? This is according to research from our friends at Casinos.com. So yes, every location on this list is a casino. But even still, having such a highly-ranked casino in our area is pretty crazy when places like Vegas and Atlantic City exist.
They created an index by looking at key factors such as the number of machines, tables, restaurants, and hotel rooms, as well as by taking into account social listening data. Doing this they came up with what Casinos.com considers to top casinos in the US. And sitting right there at number 5? One of North Carolina’s own. It’s right in the middle of two Vegas landmarks even I have heard of. So I’d say this is a big deal for sure.
