Thief Charged With Stealing Dorthy’s ‘Ruby Red Slippers’ 19 Years After the Heist
A man is facing charges for stealing the ‘Ruby Slippers.’ The man charged with a museum heist that netted a pair of ruby slippers worn by Judy Garland in “The Wizard of Oz” is expected to plead guilty to the crime today. The thief was charged with stealing Dorthy’s ‘Ruby Red Slippers’ 19 years after the heist.
According to AJC, Terry Martin was indicted in May on one count of theft of a major artwork. The shoes from the film were stolen in 2005 from the Judy Garland Museum in Minnesota and recovered in 2018 by the FBI. Martin wasn’t charged until earlier this year.
His attorney says his client, who is in poor health, has been cooperative with authorities explaining, “I think Terry is facing his own mortality and I think when people are reaching that point in their life, they cut through the pleasantries and talk turkey.”
