45 Sick Animals Taken From A Home In Salisbury North Carolina
Last week 45 sick animals were taken from a home in Salisbury North Carolina according to WCNC Charlotte.
A few days before, on October 21st, someone made a post on Facebook about a dog they had found in bad condition. A rescue group came by the next day and took the dog to do a veterinarian check at Rowan County Animal Shelter.
During this check the veterinarian determined that the dog was starving. They also found a microchip that led them to a home on Morlan Park Road.
After this was discovered the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office gained a search warrant for the house. On October 26th the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Apprehension Team (SOCAT) partnered with Rowan County Animal Services and went to the home to serve the warrant. The residents, Justin Robert-Lee Smith and Madyson Danyell Clontz, were both home at the time and Clontz’ child was also there.
During the search, authorities found many different animals inside and outside in “very poor condition.” The house itself was also in bad condition, with both mold and rat feces everywhere.
This is the list of animals that were found:
- 11 dogs, one of which had died
- 8 roosters
- 6 chickens and hens
- 4 guinea chickens
- 4 ducks
- 3 goats, one of which had died
- 2 cats
- 2 pigs
- 2 snakes, one of which had died
- 1 turtle
- 1 betta fish
- 1 bearded dragon
On October 30th, Smith and Clontz both turned themselves in and were served with warrants. They were each charged 45 counts of felony animal cruelty and three counts of misdemeanor child abuse.
They were both placed into a detention center, Smith received $6,000 secured bond and Clontz received a $3,000 secured bond.
