You ever feel like your once quiet little neighborhood starts to burst at the seams?  Well, it might mean you're in one of the fastest growing South Carolina towns.  And, sometimes we look at growth as a positive thing.  And other times, folks feel it interferes with their peaceful existence that caused them to move to the small town to begin with.  Love it or hate it, it's reality.  And, so I decided to just look it up to find out if my guess about the fastest growing town in South Carolina was correct.

And, the answer is sort of.  According to Home Snacks, the data in the American Community Survey points to one small town in South Carolina that moved to the top of the list from 2022.  Now, Bluffton lands at the number 1 fastest growing town in South Carolina for 2023.  It was number 2 on the list last year.  The population of Bluffton measures at just over 27,000.  And, in analyzing the ACS data over the years since 2010, that's an increase of more than 156%.  American Community Survey is a leading source for information about populations and housing.

So, I looked to Bluffton's website and found a charming vision statement.  "Bluffton, the Heart of the Lowcountry, a Town that appreciates the past, focuses on today and is planning together for a greater future."  Bluffton is in Beaufort County, the Southernmost coastal county of South Carolina.  It's the primary town within the Hilton Head Island region.  And, as is the case in any small town, you find farmers' markets, parks and trails and affordable housing.

So, as I said earlier, my guess at what the fastest growing city in South Carolina would be was sort of right.  I live in the area of Fort Mill.  And, it seems this region explodes with growth daily.  And, if you told me it was number one I wouldn't be shocked.  However, although it ranks high, it obviously is not tops.  Fort Mill comes in at number 3 on the list of fastest growing cities in South Carolina.  For the full list and more on each town, see the complete article from Home Snacks.
