Legendary North Carolina Sandwich House Up For Sale
Mention the name Brooks’ Sandwich House in Charlotte, and everyone immediately knows what you’re talking about. And now, the legendary North Carolina Brooks’ Sandwich House sale is coming. Just recently, owner David Brooks mentioned that he might be looking to sell. And now, we know that became a reality with the listing becoming official.
According to WSOC-TV, although the Brooks’ Sandwich House sale listing is official and public knowledge, the price is another matter. Anyone interested must inquire for details. However, the storied history of the legendary North Carolina sandwich house is one everyone knows. Brooks’ Sandwich House celebrated 50 years this past summer. And, Reader’s Digest once included the restaurant on a list of Best Burgers in Every State.
It’s one of those spots that doesn’t come around every day. And, to sustain for 5 decades in the restaurant business is quite an achievement. Sadly, we all remember several years ago the tragic loss of owner David Brooks’ brother, Scott. Scott Brooks was killed during a robbery of the restaurant while opening one early morning. And, some people wondered what the future held for the restaurant following the tragedy. But, they kept going to the delight of their devoted customers.
Lauren Brooks Thorp is Scott’s niece. Her father, David, is his twin brother. Before his passing, her uncle had made it known he wanted the generational family business to continue even after his retirement. Thorp says that almost didn’t happen after the shooting. The family was so grief stricken, there was talk of closing the business. But in the days after the incident, community support made the family rethink the future of the restaurant. Thorp, 27, wanted to make sure the 50 year-old legacy continued. Scott’s twin brother, David, helped with the restaurant to keep a promise his brother wanted fulfilled.
So, we don’t yet know what happens in the next chapter of Brooks’ Sandwich House. But, the popular restaurant on its nearly one acre lot in NoDa is officially up for sale. They just don’t make em like that anymore. For more, see the full story on WSOC-TV.
