You know that $2 dollar bill your Grandaddy gave you?  Hold on to it. Your 2 dollar bill could soon be worth a fortune.

There are some conditions. Your 2 dollar bill could be valuable but it all depends on the condition it is in and when it was printed. According to our source,Channel 9 in Charlotte, The U.S. Currency Auctions Guide says $2 dollar bills can either literally be worth face value of could be valued at close to $5,000.

Check your bill and see if it was printed back in 1890. If it was and didn't go far into circulation then you can reportedly expect thousands.  Even if it was circulated you could  be in for a cool $2,500.  If it is even considered in "fine" condition it could be worth close to $600.

An old bill in low circulation is not the only criteria for value.   Check that serial  number.  If it is low, then your bill is more valuable according to this report from Channel 9. A $2 dollar bill sold at auction with a low serial number for $2,400. The same bill was resold for $4,000 and the report expects it could be sold again for up to $6,000.

Heritage Auctions reports a $2 bill from 1869 will go on the auction block.  They expect it to fetch close to $12,000.  So, it pays to at least take a look at that long forgotten $2.  You might just make a mint.
