Admit it, most of us really love the fantasy created by the Hallmark holiday movies.  And, the good news for all us dreamers is that this nearby South Carolina town tops a list of Best Christmas Towns in the United States for winter getaways.  And, it's none other than Greenville, South Carolina.

So, Greenville came in at number one!  It's on House Beautiful's list of 30 Best Christmas Towns in the USA for a Magical Winter Getaway.  We lived in Greenville right after we got married back in the mid '90s.  And, we loved it.  The downtown area was just taking off in growth when we were there.  But, that's one of the areas the article points out as a strong point.

House Beautiful describes downtown Greenville, South Carolina as "quaint" and reminiscent of the setting of a Hallmark movie.  They mention an outdoor skating rink and a Festival of Trees competition.  Wow, that actually happened in a Hallmark movie once I think!  Also, I remember living there that sometimes the weather actually cooperates and gives the snow lovers a little glimpse of a true winter.

Therefore, it doesn't surprise me that Greenville, South Carolina made House Beautiful's number 1 spot for Best Christmas Towns in the USA for Winter Getaways.  And, for those of you in North Carolina they didn't leave you out.

House Beautiful named Asheville, North Carolina as number 19 on their list.  Of course, we know the beauty of the mountains.  And, there's nothing more "Christmasey" than the Biltmore Estate all decked out in its holiday best.  I highly recommend a trip for the Candlelight Christmas evenings at Biltmore.  We used to have dinner on the estate grounds at one of the fantastic restaurants.  Then, we toured.  We stayed over at a local bed and breakfast.  And, we returned the next day to visit the winery and have lunch.

There you have it with two recommendations of best Christmas towns nearby.  And, you can browse House Beautiful's complete list in the full article to plan more getaways.

13 Cut Your Own Christmas Tree Farms In North Carolina

Maybe it's the love I have for Christmas Vacation (because that movie would obviously make you romanticize getting a Christmas tree). Or Taylor Swift's Christmas Tree Farm that is stuck in my head as I write this.  But something has always seemed so magical to me about driving in the snow to pick out that most perfect of trees. Instead, my holiday tradition, which I still love because well it's tradition, involves a shopping center lot. that doesn't mean I can't dream about what it would be like, eyes frozen shut and all, to cut my own Christmas tree. In hindsight, the fact that I shouldn't be trusted with a saw could be a deterrent. But if you'd like to cut your own Christmas tree in North Carolina there are several options.

These include deep in the mountains, or closer to home near Charlotte. And these are family affairs for sure. Most of the 13 options listed below include Christmas trees (of course). But they also have Santa, hot chocolate, hayrides, shopping, and other activities. So if you think you're going to be driving hours to spend 20 minutes finding a tree only to turn around a go home think again. You could also easily make a weekend out of some of these destinations as well. So maybe it's time to make some new family traditions this year and skip the Walmart trees. Check out 13 places to cut your own Christmas tree here in North Carolina! (Ok a couple are technically South Carolina but we are going with distance from Charlotte!).
