Potentially Lifesaving Safety Measures Could Be Added To Some North Carolina Schools

It’s no secret there’s an opioid crisis. And, unfortunately, it sometimes spills over into schools. But, a potentially lifesaving safety measure could be added to some North Carolina schools. According to WSOC TV, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools began considering the addition of Narcan in Charlotte schools campuses.
Narcan is a potentially lifesaving measure that quickly treats a drug overdose. Although, Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools point out there haven’t been any opioid overdoses in schools so far. But, it’s certainly better to be safe than sorry. And, director of Mecklenburg County Public Health Raynard Washington said, “We know that the risk of kids being exposed to opioids is increasing as fentanyl has gotten into the drug supply, as well as other types of counterfeit pills and edibles.”
The policy committee plans a meeting to add wording to include Narcan in Charlotte schools to the emergency kits on campus. And, if so, the measure would include elementary, middle and high schools in CMS. Then, the schools could be stocked with a supply of the nasal spray kits by the end of the year.
Also, plans include training for school nurses. And, they point out that instructions with the kits make it fairly simple for anyone to administer in the event of an emergency. The nasal spray is meant to reverse an overdose. To read more about Charlotte Mecklenburg plans to put Narcan in Charlotte schools campuses this year, see the full story from WSOC TV.
And, in the meantime, we will keep a watch on the progress of the proposed measure. So, if and when the vote takes place and passes, we’ll provide updates. Of course, schools have to be careful when changing any policy concerning student health. But, anything that has potential to save a child would be a welcome addition in my opinion.
Do You Agree? These Are The Top Ranked Schools In Charlotte Area For 2024
As a parent, part of moving to a new area is determining which area has a great school district. Niche.com helped out and delivered the top ranked schools for 2024 in the Charlotte area. The question now is do you agree?
I can’t lie. I have always wondered where someone could go to get a non-biased opinion of schools beyond some general places. I recently found out about Niche and this really came in and answered many if not all questions someone could have about a school in a certain district, area, or state. Most of the analytics on each school break down if the school is a great school for teachers. This helps a teacher who that may be looking to switch states and not sure where to start. Not only does this show how the schools are ranked per state, but it also shows the best schools for athletes.
One of the big things that I enjoyed seeing in high schools was the breakdowns of SAT and ACT scores. They even gave the graduation percentage rate. That is a big deal because you learn just how well some schools are actually performing and how well some of them aren’t.
