‘Tis the season for eating. And, there’s a lot of folks who enjoy sharing a bite or two of their meal with their furry friends. So, experts weigh in on which Thanksgiving foods are safe to share with our dogs. And, any responsible pet owner pays close attention to foods that might harm their beloved four-legged family member.
Of course, everything safe for humans isn’t automatically safe to share with dogs or other pets. But, which ones do we need to avoid? And, which ones are okay in small amounts occasionally?
Daily Meal indicated in weeks leading up to the holiday, Google searches for “is Thanksgiving food bad for dogs” increased 130%. And, the good news is there are ways to safely and responsibly include our friends in the celebration.
So, it’s usually well-known that dogs should not eat chocolate. But, there are other lesser known dangers they might encounter on the big day. Daily Meal experts list grapes, raisins, stuffing and desserts high in fat or dairy as things to avoid feeding your dog on Thanksgiving.
Plus, they add that dogs can experience digestive issues with seasonings like garlic and onions, too. However, main ingredients in their stripped down basic form are probably ok. Think things like white meat turkey. But, steer clear of bones and skin. Also, some unseasoned raw veggies like green beans, apples and sweet potatoes get a green light.
