When you pop into a bar for a brew you never expect to become violently ill.  However, earlier this month 3 North Carolina bar customers required medical attention after drinking contaminated beer.   According to WXII 12, the incident happened at a Winston-Salem bar called Burke St. Pub on November 9.

Reports indicate that the 3 bar goers became violently ill and transported to the hospital after drinking the beer believed to be contaminated with an "unknown cleaner" left in the beer lines.  And, according to the 911 call, "All three of these people drank the exact same beer and immediately began vomiting.  They said it was burning their throats and burning their mouths."

However, WXII 12 reports that neither the Forsyth County Health Department nor the North Carolina ABC Commission are investigating the incident.  The health department is not involved since the bar doesn't serve food.  And, the Department of Labor has no jurisdiction because the victims were customers rather than employees.

Apparently, a beer distributing company cleaned the lines on November 7.  Then, the three customers ingested the beer for the first time on November 9.  The bar goers quickly fell extremely ill and went to the hospital for treatment.

Burke St. Pub in Winston-Salem is advertised as a "laid back watering hole with a roomy patio bar for pitchers of beer, foosball, ping-pong and trivia."  And, from reading online reviews, people enjoy hanging out watching games and gathering with friends for birthday parties and other special events.

Burke St. Pub indicates they contacted the company that cleaned the lines and had them re-serviced since the incident.  For more on the incident, read the full story from WXII 12.  And, for more on Burke St. Pub see their website.
