These Are The Changes Coming To North Carolina’s Learners Permit Program
If you are a teenager in North Carolina you will soon have to have a little more practice before getting your license. These are the changes coming to North Carolina’s learners permit program.
I remember those days. Getting in the car with my Dad while learning to drive. It seemed like forever til I turned 16 and got my North Carolina Drivers License. What a great day. Now that great day will come just a little later. Starting January 1 it will take three months longer.
According to our source, Channel 9 in Charlotte, “Starting on Jan. 1, teen drivers will need to keep their level 1 learner’s permit for nine months instead of the current six months before they can get their level 2 provisional license”.
Since 1997, teenagers in North Carolina have been required to keep their level 1 permits for a year before getting their level 2 license. During the pandemic the state legislature temporarily shortened the requirements. That 6 month requirement was extended through this year. Staring January 1 2024, the requirement will be changed to 9 months. These are the changes coming to North Carolina’s learners permit program.
