I'm a simple guy. When it comes to grocery store loyalty, I can be easily bought. When our family first moved to the Charlotte area in 2006, our Union County subdivision backed up to a Harris Teeter. Super convenient. Normally, that would be enough for me. However, there was an added bonus to shopping at Harris Teeter. Strategically placed at the end of the checkout lines, on your way to exit, was a kiosk that had to be the busiest in the store. Harris Teeter offered up free cookies.
Not just any cookies mind you, but the signature Harry The Dragon (The Harris Teeter mascot) sugar cookies (both regular and sugar free). There was a blister pack box of each on the kiosk as well as a box of parchment squares for self-service. There was no sign about limits, but I never saw anyone abuse the treat. You get done grocery shopping and grab your cookie on the way out.
Now, I'm not naive. I know that chances are for every ten of us who used the parchment squares to get our cookie, twenty practiced the barehanded removal method. No big deal (at least to me), did I mention it was a free cookie? Then came the spring of 2020. The Covid-19 pandemic and fear of the unknown in terms of transmission wreaked havoc on so many aspects of our lives. So many things we once took for granted as givens in our lives became no more.
Near the top of that list for me? FREE COOKIES FROM HARRIS TEETER!!!
Yup, this amazingly delicious customer bonus disappeared overnight. I felt certain it was gone forever. Thankfully, and apparently, I am wrong. Free Harry The Dragon Sugar Cookies at Harris Teeter are becoming a thing once again.
An official announcement from Harris Teeter is coming soon. However, as you can see, some locations haven't waited on corporate notification. Harry The Dragon free sugar cookies ARE BACK at Harris Teeter, and I could not be happier!!!
