It’s not even close to being over. Here’s when pollen counts peak in North Carolina. March 19 is quickly approaching. That’s the first official day of spring. And if you haven’t already, it is time to get ready for allergy season.
According to our source, the Charlotte Observer, the highest pollen counts usually happen around the first week of April. Of course the window starts around the last week of March. This is according to the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality and reported originally in the News and Observer.
Peak pollen season depends on more than the calendar. Other factors including weather and the time of day play a part as well. Here are a few things to know about pollen season in Charlotte, North Carolina.
This is according to Carolina Asthma and Allergy and published in the Charlotte Observer: Here’s what you can expect and when: “Ragweed: August-December, highest in September Grass: April-September, highest in May-August Trees: March-June, highest in April Mold: July-October, can be year-round if exposed to spores indoors.”
And this makes perfect sense. I am my sneeziest in the mornings and I am not alone. Pollen levels are usually highest early in the morning and right around the middle of the day. According to Carolina Asthma and Allergy that’s the time of day when plants are releasing pollen. Aha! I knew it.
You can also become exposed to allergies all day if the pollen gets on your clothes! Good to know. We all know what happens when allergies settle in. Itchy and watery eyes and runny noses are two of the symptoms.
Is there any way to avoid the effects of pollen in the spring time? The experts say to avoid outdoor activities. Also stay inside when it’s windy and dry. That’s one I haven’t thought of. Not many people hang clothes out to dry anymore but that is advised against during pollen season. Here’s when pollen counts peak in North Carolina and more. Get details from the Charlotte Observer right here.
