One of the all-time great professional wrestlers will be honored once again this weekend as The North Carolina Wrestling Association puts on its 12th Annual Ivan Koloff Memorial Tag Team Tournament in Clayton, North Carolina.  The legendary "Russian Bear" will be remembered with plenty of action in the squared circle at the Clayton Fitness Center Saturday night.

I remember Ivan as he was later in his career.  Mainly as the tag team partner of "The Russian Nightmare," Nikita Koloff.  However, he had a long and storied career in pro wrestling over several decades.  Perhaps, the biggest highlight was the night in 1971 when Ivan Koloff ended the many years reign of Bruno Samartino to win the WWWF World Heavyweight Championship.

This event will honor the man as much as the wrestler.  According to CBS 17, "The tournament has always served as a special time where fans, and wrestlers alike get together to honor, and share stories about Ivan Koloff. For some, they wrestled against him, tagged with him, trained with, or learned from him. Some knew him from his work with the Children’s Miricale Network."

Fans who come out for the 12th Annual Ivan Koloff Memorial Tag Team Tournament in Clayton will get to see and interact with some pretty big names in the annals of professional wrestling.  Ricky Morton of the legendary Rock and Roll Express will be there.  Also, WWE legends Tatanka and Bushwhacker Luke are taking part.  And fans of ECW (Extreme Championship Wrestling) will be pleased that Shane Douglas and CW Anderson are involved in the tournament.  Additionally, making his first appearance since recently leaving WWE, Alexander (Madcap) Moss will be in action.

There will be plenty of tag team action (of course) in the Ivan Koloff tournament, but there will be plenty of singles action as well.  The 12th Annual Ivan Koloff Memorial Tag Team Tournament takes place Saturday night (3/30) at the Clayton Fitness Center.  Doors open at 6:30, bell time is 7:30.
