Luke Combs Knew He Didn’t ‘Look The Part’
Luke Combs released his Fathers & Sons album on Friday (6/14) and promoted the new project on CBS Mornings over the weekend.
In talking about making it in Nashville, Luke told the network he knew what made his rise to fame in Nashville take a little longer than most. He said, “I think the thing that was most discouraging was I felt like at that time, ‘I’m not get passed over for my ability, I’m getting passed over because I don’t look the part.'”
The two-time Entertainer of the Year added, “That was frustrating, but I never let it bum me out because I was happy doing what I wanted to do.”
Combs also spoke about his identity as a singer, saying that he’s “really not very different” from his fanbase. He joked that he’s a “decently average-looking guy to below average-looking guy.”

He prides himself on not taking himself “too seriously.” He went on to say that as a kid, he was always singing and “constantly listening to music” and singing songs he heard on the radio.
Luke admitted that his success “didn’t come easy,” saying he wrote a “lot of bad songs,” but he enjoyed the process so much that it “never felt like work.”
He concluded that he wants his young sons to know that, even with his career at its highest point, they are “my number one priority.”
He often discusses fatherhood in interviews. In a new interview to promote the new album, Combs said of spending time with his two young boys, “I’m lucky to get to spend three or four days a week at home with the kids when I’m not on the road. We play two nights a week, and so the rest of the days, I’m home with them. I’ll play some shows and come home and make breakfast and lunches and naps and diapers, it’s cool.”
Luke also said that inspiration for dad songs has come a lot since his boys were born. He noted that “there’s a lot for sure,” and he sometimes thinks when he’s writing some of these songs, you get to “some of those moments where it just kinda all hits ya at once.”
