Of all the gorgeous beaches in the Tarheel State just four were named the best of the best for surfing. Who made the cut? According to our source, The Charlotte Observer, Wrightsville Beach is 1 of the 4 North Carolina beaches best for surfing.
Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina
Here's what Southern Living has to say about Wrightsville Beach, “This vibrant beach town pulls in tons of surfers from UNC Wilmington, which was ranked high on a list of best college towns for surfers. Wrightsville Beach can pick up fall and winter Nor’easters (extratropical cyclones in the western North Atlantic Ocean), as well as hurricane swells from the Southeast, making it a great spot for bigger waves when the conditions are just right,”. This beach in New Hanover county has the nickname, 'birthplace of surfing in North Carolina".
Emerald Isle, North Carolina
Emerald Isle pops up on so many best of lists. I think the universe is telling me I need to go there. It is already one of the most popular beaches in the Outer Banks. This spot is world renowned for it's white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. It's great for surfers because of it's location. The Bogues Island spot offers a variety of waves breaks. And surfers love wave breaks.
Sounds like the Wilmington area is the place to go. Carolina Beach is one of the North Carolina beaches named best for surfing. It is about 15 miles outside the coastal town. The Charlotte Observer describes Carolina Beach this way, "a laid back friendly vibe not too upscale or comfy".
Cape Hatteras also makes Southern Living's list of North Carolina beaches best for surfing. We love going to Cape Hatteras because of its remote location. And that is one of the reasons why surfers love it too. And of course it is all about the breaks and this location has plenty.
