Iconic Charlotte Restaurant Closing After More Than 30 Years
The restaurant scene in any big city is highly competitive. So, it’s an accomplishment when a spot lasts for even a few years, let alone decades. But, one iconic Charlotte restaurant closing after more than 30 years will surely be missed.
When Will Be The Last Day For Charlotte Restaurant Closing
According to WCNC, Harper’s Restaurant, a longtime favorite in SouthPark is shutting its doors Saturday, July 20. And, Harper’s in an announcement on social media indicated the decision wasn’t theirs.
The Reason Behind Charlotte Restaurant Closing
The location was forced to close after property owners made a decision to go in another direction. The announcement read in part: “Though we had hoped and wanted to stay for at least another few years, the property owners have something else they would like to put on our plot of land, leaving us without a choice.”
At this point, we don’t know what the plans are for the property. But, the Charlotte restaurant closing hinted that they hope this isn’t the last you see of them in the Queen City. The SouthPark location isn’t the only one in North Carolina. Harper’s is also in Greensboro.
I remember visiting Harper’s while shopping at SouthPark Mall. It was just a good solid choice with menu items that could please a number of palates if you had companions along for the meal. Their culinary manager described Harper’s on the website as relaxed, comfort style food with everything you crave from American bites to pizza.
The kitchen featured an imported wood-fired oven. They were also known for their steaks and burgers grilled on live hickory. I remember yummy salads and sandwiches, too!
We’ll miss this Charlotte restaurant closing. And, we’ll keep a watch on what might be next for the property. Plus, we’ll look for where we might see Harper’s pop up next.
