South Carolina Duke Energy Customers Will See A Rate Increase

Many people in the Palmetto State are going to feel this. Dig in your pockets just a little deeper. South Carolina Duke Energy customers will see a rate increase. State regulators have made the decision that will go into effect August 1. And to many it will be significant.

According to our source, the Charlotte Business Journal, The Public Service Commission of South Carolina has given the go ahead for a Duke Energy rate hike. That will effect residential services. And the rate increase is significant. At least for our household. Residential customers reportedly will see an increase of 8.7 %. That shakes up to about an additional $12.06 in your bill if you are a Duke Energy customer in South Carolina. Oh and there's more. According to our source, on August 1,2026 the rates will rise again. In the future, rates will rise another 4.3%.

Duke Energy asked for the rate review in January. Commercial customers are not left out. Starting August 1, commercial customers will see a rate increase of a reported 4.4%. North Carolina is not exempt from rate increases. Duke Energy had another multi year rate approval. Over three years this plan implements a rate increase of of 14.6%.

In a direct quote from the Charlotte Business Journal, "Duke Energy became a fully regulated utility last year after the sale of its commercial renewables business. The company completed five rate cases in 2023. Multiyear-rate plans are key to Duke's growth strategy as it transitions to cleaner energy". So, there's your explanation North and South Carolina.

Duke Energy as a company reportedly cut jobs in January. It was part of their "broad reorganization plan".
