Celebrity Chef’s Fox & Falcon Restaurant Closes In SouthPark Just Months After Opening
This one is really ironic. I had just received numerous targeted ads this week for celebrity chef David Burke’s restaurant, leading to me to begin planning to visit soon. And now, I learn that the Fox & Falcon restaurant closes in SouthPark just months after opening.
If you remember back to late last year, we got the news that another of our favorites, Dogwood Southern Table was shutting down. And, celebrity chef David Burke’s hospitality management group planned to open Fox & Falcon in Dogwood’s space.
We had an amazing Chef’s Tasting meal at Dogwood right before it closed.
And, we were sad to see it go. But, we looked forward to the new restaurant taking over. Well, they did open in the 4100 square foot restaurant space on Ashley Park Lane in September.
Fox & Falcon Restaurant Closes In SouthPark And Here’s Why
Fast forward to current day, and according to Charlotte Business Journal, the Fox & Falcon restaurant closes that very location. David Hynes, president of the hospitality group, says, “Every restaurant on the street has struggled. We had hoped for better results, but given the current economic environment we don’t keep non-performing locations open.”
He went on to indicate the location proved to be difficult and had limited traffic. However, the article points out that this is not the first restaurant the chef has closed in Charlotte. Red Salt by David Burke and Cloud Bar at Le Meridian hotel in Uptown also closed.
But, the chef is determined not to give up on Charlotte, saying “In the restaurant business you can’t get deterred.” And, I certainly hope that’s the case. His Fox & Falcon restaurant had many items on its menu I was looking forward to trying.
One of the latest trends at many upscale dining establishments is ‘clothesline bacon.’ And, David Burke had his version, too. It’s literally bacon glazed with maple and strung across a line for presentation at the table. I saw something like it at Clark’s in Little River near Myrtle Beach.
It’s always a shame to see a nice restaurant go, especially for self proclaimed ‘foodies’ like myself. In fact a good friend of mine who was a restaurant owner told me this weekend she and her husband sold their restaurant after less than a year because it’s just too difficult to make profits in the current environment.
So, it’s too bad Fox & Falcon restaurant closes in SouthPark. But, hopefully Chef Burke will surface again. For more details see the full story.
