I’m a guy that likes to stay relatively close to home. No need to travel far and wide when you live in North Carolina and South Carolina. There is everything from the highest mountains to the most beautiful beaches in the world right here within just a few hours drive from just about anywhere.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Cherokee

1 of the 3 beautiful North Carolina spots to visit before summer is gone is the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Cherokee, North Carolina. More than half of its thousands of acres is in the Tar Heel state. And this “local” park is the most visited national park in the whole country according to visitnc.com.

If you are more into the coast, do we have a beautiful North Carolina spot for you. Head to the Outer Banks and the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. It stretches from the legendary Bodie Island to the north and southward to Ocracoke. You will find miles of pristine beaches. 3 Natural Water Parks In North Carolina To Visit This Summer

Have you visited any of the natural water parks in North Carolina? One thing I don’t need to tell you- it’s hot. As I’m writing this in July of 2024 the high today in Charlotte? 99 degrees. You may have exhausted most of the air-conditioned indoor activities to keep your kids and yourself entertained.

I know personally I’ve been to the pool almost every day. I love it, but if you aren’t in the water, it’s miserable. I was even at the beach this weekend and when the sun was out, you had to be in the water to cool off.

So you may be looking for a new adventure to try and beat the heat. That’s where this idea comes in. You’ve probably been to the waterparks, there are some fantastic ones including Carowinds and Wet N Wild. But what about one of the natural water parks in North Carolina?

Our state has so much natural beauty and ways to beat the heat and enjoy nature from the coast to the mountains. The beach is the perfect (and most obvious) place to do this. But the three natural waterparks in North Carolina you’ll find on this list, they each offer a different more unique experience.

  • Sliding Rock

    Sliding Rock is one of the most well-known natural water parks in the state. Located in Brevard, NC this 60-foot natural waterside ends in an 8-10 foot deep pool. The area is open year-round (weather permitting) and lifeguards and restrooms are open Memorial Day through Labor Day. Learn more here.

  • Cape Fear River Adventure

    A plethora of river activities for individuals, families, and groups is what you’ll find at Cape Fear River Adventure. And whatever your desired adventure level is they have something to accommodate. This includes canoe rentals, paddle boarding, kayaking, whitewater rafting, and the activity that caught my eye- river tubing down a natural lazy river.   • Carrigan Farms

    The quarry at Carrigan Farms hosts “open swim” at their natural quarry during the summer months. This popular activity books up often, and reservations are open 14 days prior. Located in Mooresville it’s about 30 minutes north of Charlotte. Learn more here.
