Social districts are becoming increasingly popular these days. And, the social district Concord North Carolina is the latest to join the growing list of cities incorporating them into their downtown areas.

Social District Concord North Carolina

According to WBTV, more than a dozen merchants in the downtown area of Concord are part of the new social district hoping to help sales following ongoing issues related to post COVID days and construction.

So, what exactly is a 'social district' and how does it work? Well, following the lead of others cities who have incorporated them in the past couple of years, it's quite simple. The city maps out parameters and posts signs to help patrons find the participating businesses.

And, customers are then allowed to carry alcoholic beverages from business to business within these determined boundaries. Then, the participating businesses in the social district Concord North Carolina supply customers with to go cups with stickers displayed on them indicating it's part of the legally defined area.

How It Works

People can walk around, pop into a participating business within the social district and get a drink, walk out with that drink and proceed to another participating business. And, in addition to the handful of participating businesses, there will be about 15 more that are open to having customers bring drinks from other businesses inside, even though the business itself may not be actually selling alcohol.

Social district Concord North Carolina hours are from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. And, Concord isn't the first North Carolina city to add a social district. We have visited the one in Monroe for a couple of years now. And, Charlotte joined in earlier this year. So, as of now, about a quarter of North Carolina counties have some type of social district.

Our Experience With Other Social Districts

It's been our experience that everyone taking part in the social district is typically well behaved and drinking responsibly. From our visits to the Monroe district, it's mostly just friends and neighbors exploring the downtown area, having a good time. And, sometimes there's live music at a few of the spots and maybe even a delicious food truck.

When it comes to social district Concord North Carolina, Downtown Development Manager Paige Grochoske says, "We're excited for this to kick off and we hope that people will come out and enjoy, and just visit the businesses. If you haven't been out in a while, you can see a lot of the progress going on that we have in downtown Concord."
