Another Charlotte Restaurant Closes Its Doors Permanently
Rocksalt restaurant in South Charlotte has decided to cease operations. I’ve written this before, but every time I see word of a restaurant closing, I am doubly sad. Number one, I love food, and I love eating out at unique places. So, any time a potential opportunity for food adventure goes away, I’m bummed. However, the biggest reason for my melancholy is I realize that the closing of those doors is the ending of a dream for someone. There’s not one of us who cannot relate to that hurt.
What Is Rocksalt?
According to their website, Our ROCKSALT restaurant reflects the best of what’s local, whether it be our grains, produce, or meats, complemented by seafood from the Carolina and Virginia coasts, including Travis Croxton’s own oyster and clam farms. Travis co-owns Rappahannock River Oysters, LLC. He’s primarily an oyster famer based out of Viginia with several different farms on his portfolio there. Oh, and he’s also a big deal in the culinary world Food & Wine magazine recognized him with the 2005 Tastemaker’s Award. Croxton was also recognized in 2013 by Zagat as one of the “24 Restaurant-World Power Players Around the U.S.”
Rocksalt Closing Announcement
It’s interesting to note that even though one (in this case, Travis Croxton) can be a hugely successful restaurant owner, not all restaurant’s will be successful. In fact, I think you’d be stunned to find out how many establishments owned and operated by some of the biggest names in the food world (Booy Flay, Guy Fieri, Gordon Ramsay) have all had to close down restaurants. On the announcement of the impending closure on Facebook, Rocksalt does say they will be open for a few hours each afternoon this week for cocktail and small bite specials and well as deals on bottles of wine as well.
