Los Angeles continues to be one of the country’s leaders in electric vehicles, as nearly 588,000 residents own and drive one regularly. The problem is they’re starting to have trouble getting to where they want to go.

What Is The Problem

That’s because there aren’t nearly enough charging stations in the L.A. area to handle all of the city’s electric vehicles, new research reveals. Real estate firm CBRE took a look at all the available charging stations in the area and identified those that were woefully lacking them as “charging deserts.” In addition to Los Angeles, such cities as Inglewood, Long Beach and Sherman Oaks – 10 in all – don’t provide enough resources for EV drivers to charge their cars, CBRE reveals.

Wait There Is More

Making the problem even worse is the fact that California has a high percentage of renters who can’t charge their vehicles at home, according to the research. For example, Inglewood is made up of 70 percent renters – and there are no charging stations there, per CBRE. Fox News is reporting that Los Angeles is installing EV chargers on light poles to help meet the growing demand for electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
