Ascending With The Carolina Ascent FC
This Saturday history will be made in Charlotte. Women’s professional soccer in the Queen City will become an absolute reality when our Carolina Ascent FC play host to the DC Power Football Club at American Legion Memorial Stadium at 7pm. Prior to this exciting event, three of the Ascent’s players stopped by the Country 1037 studio to talk to this particular sports nut.
Carolina Ascent FC-Cannon Clough
In addition to having one of the coolest names of all time, Cannon Clough is one of our own. She’s a Charlotte girl who played collegiately for the Charlotte 49ers and the North Carolina Tar Heels. On that subject, she talked about playing for UNC coaching legend Anson Dorrance (who announced his retirement this week). We then segued to her professional career in Australia and how cool it is to get to do the thing back home.
Carolina Ascent FC-Jaydah Bedoya
Jaydah Bedoya is fascinating. She’s a native of Massachusetts who, because of her grandfather’s heritage, has had the opportunity to play internationally for his native Ecuador. Her college career was spent starring for the University of Connecticut and West Virginia. And now, she’s pumped to be a part of the Carolina Ascent FC.
Carolina Ascent FC-Jill Aguilera
Like her teammate Jaydah, Jill Aguilera has had a really interesting early part to her career. She’s from the Bay area of California and played her college soccer at the University of Arizona. However, she is a member of the Puerto Rican national team. She’s also played professionally here in the states for the Chicago Stars of the NWSL. Her observations on culture shock between northern California, Puerto Rico, and the Carolinas still makes me laugh just thinking about it.
If these three ladies are any indication, the Carolina Ascent has no shortage of tremendous ambassadors for the league in general and our city in particular. Tickets for the Axcent’s inaugural game this Saturday night are available here.
