Professional Ping Pong Coming To Raleigh
One of the problems with being an athlete of the vast majority of summer Olympic sports is, there’s no way to really monetize your ability. I mean, you never hear of professional shot-put leagues or major league table tennis, right? Apparently, WRONG
I just keep imagining the look on my dad’s face when I tell him, “Dad, I think I’m going to become a professional ping-pong player. You should have seen his face when I told him I was becoming a radio disc jockey! <g> Anyway, Major League Table Tennis (MLTT) is taking their show on the road and coming to Raleigh’s Triangle Badminton and Table Tennis Club September 20-22.
So Major League Table Tennis Is A Thing?
There’s no doubt that watching table tennis at the highest level is mesmerizing. I found myself glued to the screen-mouth ajar-while watching the competition at the Paris games last week. That being said, is there really an audience for a “league?” The answer so far is, “Definitely maybe.” Major League Table Tennis made its debut on September 15th of last year. According to The Enterprise, the league has continued to grow in popularity, with YouTube livestreams of its 2024 draft and the championship game three months ago combining for about 10,000 views.
Major League Table Tennis Lineup In Raleigh
Again, MLTT will be bringing its stars (MANY of the biggest names in the sport that you saw in the Olympics) to Raleigh next month. And you will be able to see a slew of action. Here’s the scheduled lineup. Texas vs. Chicago at 4 p.m. Sept. 20, That match will be immediately followed by Seattle taking on Carolina at 7 p.m. The next day finds Seattle squaring off with Chicago at 4, and Texas vs. Carolina at 7. The final day at the Triangle Badminton and Table Tennis Club will find Seattle and Texas competing at 4 followed by Chicago and Carolina meeting at 7. if you can’t attend in person, all matches will be streamed on MLTT’s YouTube channel.
