How To Wash Your Fruits And Veggies Properly
Fruits and vegetables are incredibly healthy and are a great way to nourish your body, but most people don’t know how to wash them properly. According to Optimist Daily many fruits and vegetables contain things like bacteria, fungi, and pesticide residue that most people don’t clean off properly.
Washing your produce with just water
One of the most effective, and yet super simple, ways to wash your fruits and vegetables is with cold running water. Before you wash your produce make sure you wash your hands. To rinse the produce just use cold water and rub every item, making sure to get into the harder to reach spaces in things like lettuce.
If you want to soak your produce then you can use a clean bowl and submerge it fully. Don’t use your actual sink to wash the fruits and veggies because sinks are usually filled with bacteria. Always remember you shouldn’t use things like soap, bleach, or any detergents on produce because it could absorb it and become extremely dangerous to consume.
Using natural products to clean produce
If you would like to use some type of cleaner on your produce you can use natural things like baking soda or vinegar. Using half a cup of vinegar to one cup of water can help to eliminate pesticide residues and bacteria. If you use this mixture, soak your produce for two or three minutes and then rise it with cold water thoroughly to ensure that the flavor isn’t affected.
To use the baking soda method, use one teaspoon of baking soda to a cup of water. This method can help eliminate things like microorganisms and chemicals. Soak your produce for 15 minutes in this mixture and stir it occasionally.
