Bossy Beulah’s Ballantyne Officially Open At The Bowl
We’re always on the hunt to try new restaurants, and we had been looking forward to this one for a while. We were there as Bossy Beulah’s Ballantyne officially opened at The Bowl. And, here’s more about the spot and our experience!
I am fortunate in my job to be asked to make appearances at new businesses and restaurants from time to time. And, this was the case recently as Bossy Beulah’s Ballantyne opened at The Bowl. This is the 5th location in North Carolina, and I can certainly see why there’s demand for the brand to continue expanding.
Bossy Beulah’s Ballantyne
First of all, I am all about the location. The recently opened Bowl At Ballantyne is thriving, with new restaurants, gelato spots and wine bars and breweries springing up. Plus, there’s still so much more to come. The space is a great place for families to visit and walk around from place to place. And, there’s even green space for kids to kick a ball and run and play.
Now, let’s get to the business at hand…Bossy Beulah’s Ballantyne opening. Although Bossy Beulah’s Chicken Shack was new to me when I heard they were expanding, I looked into it before my visit. And, it has quite a unique story.
The group behind Bossy Beulah’s Ballantyne is Jim Noble of Noble Food & Pursuits. You may know some of their other ventures including Noble Smoke, Rooster’s and The King’s Kitchen. And, yes, the name, Beulah, comes from a real person!
The History And The Real Aunt Beaut Behind The Name
According to their website, Jim Noble’s Great Aunt Beulah, ‘Beaut’ for short, had an unmatched talent for making fried chicken. Aunt Beaut was born in Iredell County and said to be all-loving, but no-nonsense. So, the family lovingly referred to her as ‘Bossy.’ She believed it was okay to be bossy as long as you were right! We all have probably had our own ‘Aunt Beaut’ or ‘Bossy Beulah’ in our family.
So, once she shared the family recipe for fried chicken with Jim, he began sharing it with guests of The King’s Kitchen. And now, guests of Bossy Beulah’s Ballantyne get the same delicious recipe that started it all. The menu is simple, straightforward and solidly delicious. Let’s take a look.
What I Ordered And How It Stacks Up
Bossy Beulah’s staple is ‘The Beaut.’ That’s what I ordered. It’s a fried chicken breast, Duke’s Mayo, house made pickles on a Copain bun, baked by a local bakery. It’s all those little touches that separate Bossy Beulah’s from all the other run of the mill chicken sandwiches.
The chicken breast is huge and thick, yet juicy and flavorful with a crunchy crust that keeps you going back in for more. You can definitely tell the pickles don’t come from a jar on a store shelf. And, the bun is buttery, sweet and fluffy.
Bossy Beulah’s also offers the Beaut with cheese, the Hot Thigh Sandwich, wings, Bossy Bites and chicken salad wraps. The menu gives options of fries, Iredell Slaw, cucumber salad and potato salad. And, yes, there are desserts including Copain Cookies, hand pies and soft serve. Oh, and don’t forget the Bossy Sauce!
So, make plans to visit Bossy Beulah’s Ballantyne now that it is officially open at The Bowl. And visit their other locations in Fort Mill, Freedom Drive in Charlotte, Griffith Street in South End Charlotte and West First Street Winston-Salem. And, there’s more to come!
