The Best Way To Stay Hydrated
Staying hydrated is super important for both physical and mental health. However, many people don’t know how to properly rehydrate. According to CNBC Make It, there’s a few different ways you can stay hydrated.
In order to stay hydrated, you have to make sure you aren’t just drinking water. To be properly hydrated you also need electrolytes. The seven electrolytes that you have to consume in moderation to stay hydrated include: sodium, magnesium, potassium, calcium, chloride, phosphate, and bicarbonate.
Nicole Antes, a registered dietitian nutritionist, says that drinking water is “the best way for us to hydrate.” The problem is when water is filtered it ends up losing some of the healthy minerals it contains. Antes recommends adding certain trace minerals that are good for hydration like sodium, potassium and magnesium to increase the benefits of drinking water. Another option is to buy mineralized water which has these things already.
There are also many different foods and drinks that can help to keep you hydrated. Antes says that the best foods to consume when trying to boost hydration are those that are rich in minerals. The foods and beverages that she suggests are: coconut water, aloe vera juice, dark leafy greens, celery, cucumbers, and citrus.
Drinking things that are low in sugar but rich in all the natural electrolytes is one of the best ways to up your hydration game. One of Antes’ favorite drinks for hydration is a mocktail made with 8 ounces of coconut water, ⅛-¼ a cup of salt, and a squeeze of lemon.
