I know someone who travels all around the world awarding 'Michelin Stars'. Her job is to taste exceptional cuisine and anonymously award establishments when worthy of a 'star'. Well, Michelin Keys are the "Micheline Stars" of the hotel industry. And 5 North Carolina hotels get Michelin Keys including 1 prestigious hotel in Charlotte.

It is quite an honor for North Carolina to be on Michelin's radar. 5 hotels in the Tar Heel state have just received a 'key' for a "very special stay". This is the company's second ever announcement according to our source the Charlotte Observer, in a direct quote:“to specially highlight the crème de la crème” of top stays for travelers.

Here is how the keys are given. One key is awarded for a "very special stay". Two keys are awarded for "an exceptional stay". Three keys are awarded for "an extraordinary stay". All 5 North Carolina hotels are awarded one key. And that is NOT easy to get.

Let's get started in Charlotte. Which of Charlotte's many hotels received the prestigious Michelin Key. I don't think anyone would disagree that The Ivey's Hotel is indeed a place for a very special stay. I am going to tell my age here and let you know I remember shopping there when it was a fine department store back in the day.
