How Pink Noise Can Help You Sleep
Most people know what white noise is or have at least heard of it. A bland background noise that’s meant to help people concentrate and sleep. Now there’s a new type of noise gaining popularity according to GoodNet called pink noise. Pink noise is like white noise but has its own differences that have been helping it to gain popularity from those who think it actually helps you to sleep more deeply.
White noise is popular for its ability to block out other noises that may disturb you while working or sleeping. This white noise contains all frequencies audible to block out other sounds. It was named after white light which contains all color wavelengths visible. So what is pink noise and how is it better than white noise?
Pink noise is also a noise that contains all frequencies audible to the human ear. However, in pink noise, as the octaves of the noise increase the volume decreases. This gives pink noise a much deeper sound than regular white noise.
There have been a few small studies over the years on the benefits of pink noise. One study showed that playing pink noise during sleep actually increased their sleep quality which led to better memory when waking up.
Another study showed that pink noise actually had a positive effect on the sleep stability of 40 test subjects. This was due to pink noise decreasing brain activity during sleep which led to more stable and proper sleep.
